| Tiivistelmä: | 1. The total output value of China's marine industry had increased from less than 10 billion yuan in the early period of reform and opening up to over 200 billion yuan last year with an average annual growth rate of 25% or so from 1990 to 1997. 2. China became the top major iron and steel producing country with pig iron out put totalling 0.154 billion tons in the world in 1997. 3. According to the forecast of the state Bureau of Metallurgical industry, by the year 2000, the domestic consumption of steel products will reach 0.115-0.120 billion tons and the demand for ten kinds of non ferrous metal, about 5 million tons. 4. China's rare-earth output has leapt to first in the world. Its output is estimated at 53,000 tons in 1998. |
