| Tiivistelmä: | This paper examines how marriage affects the wages of men in Germany. The study is based on data from the German Socio-Economic Panel, an annual survey of private household. The findings contrasts the prevailing view that wage differential between married men and single men is results from the division of manpower within the household, since the results show that married men do as much housework that single men. It is shown that married men feel less satisfied with their economic situation than single men. The findings suggests that a dissatisfaction with wages involves married men devote to their work, which leads to higher wages. |
