Abstract: | The paper aims to extend prior research by designating that small deviations from ethical behavior lead to larger deviations from it. A study of 528 participants from Colombia, Ecuador, South Africa and the United States is conducted, examining the relationship between the respondents' willingness to bribe a police officer to avoid a speeding ticket and their views of unethical behavior of corporate executives. The most important variable in the ethical dilemmas was found to be the belief about how ethical it is to bribe a police officer. Significant variance was found in the views of Colombia, Ecuador and South Africa in comparison with USA, where the actions described in the dilemmas were perceived more ethical than in the other countries. |
