Abstract: | When formulating development (here as: dev.) strategies (as: strs.), sustainable dev. requires the goals of economic development, environmental (as: env-al.)protection and social justice to get collectively considered. This paper examines the relationship btw. urban air quality (as NO2) and social deprivation for the city of Leeds, UK. A significant degree of env-al. inequity is found to exist in Leeds. Analysis of the transport strs. indicates that this inequity will be reduced through natural fleet renewal, and - maybe contrary to expectations - road user charging is also capable of promoting env-al. equity. However, the env-al. equity response is sensitive to road pricing scheme design. |
