Abstract: | Western management practice is characterized by the use of local decision criteria that are not defined in terms of the firm's performance as a whole. Decisions guided by isolated, local criteria frequently damage the firm. The authors propose a new theoretical framework for managing organizations systemically. This framework incorporates Drucker's study of work and workers, Simon's characterization of artificial systems, Beer's control theory, Goldratt's constraint management, Gilder's abundance theory, and Covey's paradigm of 'win/win or no deal'. |
