Tiivistelmä (eng):This thesis presents a development of hardware for measuring forehead electromyographic (EMG) signals and skin conductance.
Developed hardware consists of a wireless sensor device and a computer program and it is aimed to be used as an aid for determining pain and anxiety of patients who are lacking communication abilities.
Hardware can be used for indirect measurement of autonomic nerve system activity and muscle tension related to pain and stress.

Two prototypes of headband were built.
Both of them measure skin conductance and electromyographic signals by using surface electrodes.
Measured values are transferred to computer by using Bluetooth-connection.
Software was developed to computer for receiving data and presenting gathered measurement data by drawing graphs in a real-time.

Developed devices were tested for measuring EMG and skin conductivity and fulfillment of design goals was evaluated based on testing.
Final prototype fulfilled all the design goals and device could be used for measuring skin resistance from 0 to 2 Momega and the effective value of EMG signal on 20-200 Hz bandwidth, exceeding 0,7 µV input noise of the amplifier circuit.
Largest measurable effective value of EMG is 20 µV.

Developed hardware works as designed but there are still place for improvement and need for further development when it comes to usability and the ease of use.
Main challenges are device-to-skin interface, electrode connection to skin and reliability of measurements.
