Tiivistelmä:In 2000 the Web-based ventures that offer person-to-person (P2P) betting started a real revolution in the betting industry of the UK. The new innovation of P2P betting made it possible for betting customers to accept bets; this had previously been possible only for bookmakers. This freed the betting markets and made it dynamic for the punters (betting customers). It also brought trading activities familiar to financial markets to the betting industry. In 2004 P2P betting accounted for approximately 25-30 % of UK horseracing batting turnover, but the oligopolistic bookmakers challenged the whole concept of P2P betting. The companies doing P2P betting argued though that this kind betting added the transparency and innovativeness of the betting markets. The author considers the P2P concept in the mentioned surroundings and examines its effects on the betting industry of the UK.
