| Tiivistelmä: | Using asset market data from Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA), the article analyzes the turning points in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since the end of 1980s. The findings show great declines in asset price caused by major escalation in violence, such as the start of the Intifada in 2000, whereas major peace initiatives, such as the Oslo accords in 1993, lead to substantial increases in asset prices in both Israel and the PA. The results demonstrate that the markets respond also positively to the success of politicians who give preference to a negotiated settlement to the conflict. |
