Tiivistelmä:This study explores temporal changes in Estonian intergenerational mobility patterns for cohorts born between 1930-1960. Three main research questions are addressed: 1) how have absolute mobility rates changed in Estonia, 2) What are the trends like in social fluidity across birth cohorts, and 3) what is the role of education in explaining changes across cohorts. The results indicate that absolute mobility rates decreased for men. For women, no changes in total mobility rates were detected, but upward mobility decreased slightly and downward mobility increased. Social fluidity seems to vary across cohorts. The results also show that changes in social fluidity across cohorts in Estonia have been driven by changes in educational inequality.
