Tiivistelmä:Using an evolutionary model and based on a sample of over 7,100 firms in the manufacturing and technology sectors of Sweden, it is found that surviving organizations (herein as: org/s.) established independent of parent org/s. do have lower long-term failure rates than their protected subsidiary counterparts. Especially, subsidiary org/s. are found having low mortality rates (as: m-rts.) when compared to independent org/s., yet with their m-rts. increasing more rapidly during a serious economic downturn. Altogether, the findings strengthen the notion of organizational (as: org-al.) adaptation being linked to ecological and strategic processes and also to org-al. structure.
