The total car aftermarket was valued at GBP 4,178m in 1990, a growth of 20 percent since 1986. In real terms the market declined by 7 percent over the five years to 1990. Replacement parts represent the largest sector with a stable 84 percent share of market. Tyres represent the largest sector of replacement parts, with a 21 percent share. Technological improvements and enhancements in car manufacture have resulted in less wear and tear. The market is expected to increase by 8 percent in real terms to the mid-1990s. |
