| Tiivistelmä: | The operator of a family store knows too well that he would own an empty shell if it wasn't for customers, wholesalers, and manufacturers. Apparently, his counterparts in large Japanese firms share the feeling. The fate of any enterprise is not so much in the hands of its owner(s) than in the hands of others. The firm as legal entity is of recent vintage. In the early 19th century, it had blossomed in Europe on a legal tradition going back to Roman Law; in the latter half of the century, when it was imported by Japan, it had to be grafted on an even older tradition. |
