| Tiivistelmä: | There has recently been a shift in the interpretation of the long-run development of the modern British economy towards a "new" emphasis on the size and performance of the service sector. Rubinstein has argued that Britain's "comparative advantage" always lay in commerce and finance, which he claims is a "highly surprising contention", although one less surprising to economic historians than to non-specialists. Among evidence cited is the locus of middle-class wealth, the distribution of employment. |
