| Tiivistelmä: | The ongoing process of dismantling trade barriers between member countries began in 1957 with the formation of the EU. It has involved removing tariffs on goods traded between member countries and reducing nontariff barriers by harmonizing product standards and simplifying government formalities. In general, trade theory predicts that reducing trade costs should lead to an increase in the degree of specialization. The purpose of this paper is to analyze changes in specialization and to assess their consistency with different trade theories. |
