| Tiivistelmä: | This article examines the division of household labour in 10 countries: Australia, Austria, Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden and United States. The results indicate that micro-level processes, e.g. relative resources, time availability, and gender ideology, affect patterns of housework. Men's increase in income results in woman doing the housework but increase in women's salaries indicates often possibility for equal sharing. However, it is found that there are also macro-level differences not possible to be explained by individual characteristics. When the countries are divided into liberal, conservative and social-democratic welfare state regimes it is found that there are differences btw. these regimes. |
