| Tiivistelmä: | The role of tourism scholars as consultants in the development process is an important area within the field of tourism studies. For individuals within this field of 'expert knowledge' participation in consultancy projects often puts them into the middle of competing and complex interests at local, national and international level. This paper explores the evolution of tourism related research and consultancy, before considering the rise of ethics related to professional practice. Further, the Foucauldian construct of 'technologies of the self' is considered as potentially providing an ethical response asserted on the creative authoring of the self. |
