| Tiivistelmä: | Labor demand is generally considered as a decreasing function of the real wage. The author shows that higher real wages may also be associated with lower marginal costs and a higher demand for labor. This surprising result is derived in the framework of the turnover-cost version of the efficiency wage hypothesis. Further,the model can be applied to the analysis of the employment consequences of unionization. |
