  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): Finland's and EU's objectives of improving energy efficiency in buildings are inducing rapid changes in the energy business environment.
In Finland, energy is mainly produced in large centralized power generation plants.
From the power plants, the energy is distributed to end-users via large-scale transmission and distribution networks.
The forthcoming energy regulations will, however, obligate properties to produce at least part of their energy consumed on site or nearby.
The increasing environmental and business challenges induce necessary measures for the urban planning and private sector approaches.
The formation of a new energy production segment assigns major challenges for the management of regulatory uncertainties, the undeveloped contract and risk allocation models and the societal responsibilities.

This study focuses on finding the value elements affecting the companies and organizations operating in regional energy production business environment.
Furthermore, the impact of these value elements to the profitability and attractiveness of regional energy production is studied.
In addition, approaches required and synergies achievable for regional energy production to be more common are studied.
Finally, it is described how urban planning can affect the value elements identified.

The empirical part of the study determines the prerequisites for regional energy solutions in the city of Espoo, Finland.
The research material is aggregated in participatory research in the city planning center of the city of Espoo during the year 2012, as well as interviewing 10 potential stakeholder representatives in autumn, 2012.
The interviewees were representatives from the private sector and from the public administration.
Thus, value-creation factors affecting local energy production solutions were identified.
These factors were finally categorized as short-and long-term benefits and sacrifices.

The value elements that can be influenced by anticipatory urban planning in the City of Espoo were identified as long-term value elements.
Urban design and planning can promote, coordinate, assign, or prevent the implementation of local energy solutions.
The city planning center of the City of Espoo has also provided numerous open-energy sourced systems based on geographic information.
These systems influence particularly the short-term value elements of the private sector.
Issues concerning ownership of regional energy solutions were not included in this study.
Thus, their research works as a natural bridge for further studies.
Abstract (fin): Suomen ja EU:n tavoitteet energian käytön tehostamiseksi ovat aiheuttamassa energialiiketoiminnan ympäristön nopean muuttumisen.
Energia tuotetaan Suomessa suurissa keskitetyissä energiantuotantolaitoksissa, joista se on jaeltu laajoja siirto- ja jakeluverkkoja pitkin loppukäyttäjälle.
Lähitulevaisuudessa kiristyvät energiamääräykset velvoittavat kiinteistöt tuottamaan ainakin osan kuluttamastaan energiasta kiinteistöllä tai sen lähellä.
Kasvavat ympäristö- ja liiketoimintahaasteet aiheuttavat välttämättömiä toimia sekä kaupunkisuunnittelussa että yksityissektorin toimintamalleissa.
Uuden energiantuotantosegmentin muodostuminen asettaa suuria haasteita säädösympäristön epävarmuuden, kehittymättömien sopimusmallien, riskien allokoinnin ja yhteiskuntavastuiden hallinnalle.
Yksityissektorin lähienergiainvestointien motiivit ovat puuttuneet, sillä vuoden 2020 tavoitteeksi määritelty energiatehokas - niin kutsuttu nollaenergiarakentaminen - ja aluetehokkaat ratkaisut eivät ole olleet taloudellisesti kestäviä.

Tutkimuksessa selvitetään, millaiset arvotekijät vaikuttavat alueellisen energiantuotannon liiketoimintaympäristössä operoiviin yrityksiin ja organisaatioihin.
Lisäksi selvitetään näiden arvotekijöiden vaikutus alueellisen energiantuotannon houkuttelevuuteen ja kannattavuuteen.
Edelleen selvitetään alueellisen energiantuotannon yleistymisen edellyttämiä toimintamalleja ja saavutettavissa olevia synergiaetuja.
Tutkimuksessa kuvataan lopuksi kaupunkisuunnittelun vaikutusmahdollisuudet selvitettyihin arvotekijöihin.
Tutkimuksen empiirinen osuus selvittää alueellisten energiantuotantoratkaisujen toteutumisen edellytyksiä Espoossa.
Tutkimusmateriaali on koottu osallistuvana tutkimuksena sekä haastattelututkimuksena Espoon kaupunkisuunnittelukeskuksessa vuoden 2012 aikana.
Haastateltavina oli 10 alueelliseen energiantuotantoon mahdollisesti liittyvää yksityissektorin ja julkishallinnon toimijaa.
Haastatteluissa tunnistettiin lähienergiaratkaisujen toteutumiseen vaikuttavia arvonluontitekijöitä, jotka luokiteltiin lyhyen ja pitkän aikavälin hyödyiksi ja uhrauksiksi.

Yksityissektorin arvotekijät, joihin Espoon kaupunkisuunnittelulla on suurin vaikutusmahdollisuus, ovat pitkiin aikavalin arvotekijöitä.
Näihin arvotekijöihin voidaan vaikuttaa ennakoivalla kaupunkisuunnittelulla ja kaavoituksella.
Toimilla voidaan edistää, ohjata, määrätä tai estää lähienergiaratkaisujen toteutumista.
Pitkän aikavälin arvotekijöiden lisäksi yksityissektorin lähienergiaratkaisuihin liittyvään päätöksentekoon vaikuttavat lyhyen aikavälin arvotekijät.
Espoon kaupunkisuunnittelu on teettänyt molempiin arvotekijöihin vaikuttavia energiasuunnitelmia ja energiapaikkatietopalveluja.
Lähienergiaratkaisujen toteutumisen edellyttämiin omistajuus- ja sopimuskysymyksiin liittyvä tutkimus toimii luonnollisena jatkona tehdylle työlle.
