Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The equipment used and services offered to the mobile telecommunication network are improving.
As a result new engineering skills are needed on the field and there is continuous development in this area.
Periodically new technology arrives which causes changes to all the network equipment.
The existing technology on the radio interface is the WCDMA-technology which gives better data transmission possibilities to mobile networks than other technologies.
These mobile networks are called the third generation (3G) or UMTS mobile telecommunication networks.
Also in the near future the next level fourth generation (4G) networks are coming.

It is an extensive process to develop a new competence level to the whole staft7workforce.
It is successful only with co-operation between different units.
The aim of this thesis is to describe how analysis of needed resources and competence development has been done in the SERVICES, deeply in CARE Business Unit, for the third generation (3G) mobile networks.
Also meaning is to get feedback from specialists who have participated to development implementation.

In this thesis I have focused on resource analysis, forecast model and change management.
Also I have focused on the "five steps" model (appendix 3): motivation and starting, theoretical training, practical training by mental practice, on-the-job-training and feedback.
Abstract (fin): Matkapuhelinverkkojen laitteistot ja palvelut kehittyvät ja tarvitaan uusia taitoja hallita insinööritöitä kentällä.
Kehitystä tapahtuu koko ajan.
Aika ajoin tulee uusi teknologia, joka aiheuttaa muutoksen verkon kaikkiin laitteisiin.
Olevat verkot on rakennettu GSM-tekniikalla, jota kutsutaan toisen sukupolven (2G) teknologia.
Nyt toimitetaan WCDMA-teknologiaa, joka mahdollistaa paremmat datasiirto-ominaisuudet matkapuhelinverkoille kuin aikaisemmin.
Tätä kutsutaan kolmannen sukupolven (3G) tai UMTS matkapuhelin verkoiksi.
Lähitulevaisuudessa tulevat myös neljännen sukupolven (4G) verkot.

Uuden oppiminen koko organisaatiossa on laaja prosessi, joka onnistuu vain hyvällä yhteistyöllä eri osastojen välillä.
Myös organisaatio rakennetta on uudistettava.
Tämä muutoksen johtaminen asettaa organisaatiolle ja esimiehille haasteita.
Tässä työssä on tarkoitus kuvata miten analysoidaan kolmannen sukupolven matkapuhelinverkkojen osaajien tarvetta ja osaamisen kehitystarvetta Care Business yksikössä ja mitkä ohjeet on muutosjohtamiselle.

Lisäksi työssä keskitytään resurssitarpeen ennustusmallin kuvaamiseen, sen analysointiin ja muutosjohtamiseen.
Samalla olen keskittynyt oppimisen viisi askel -menetelmän sopivuuteen teleyrityksen tietotaidon kehittämisessä.
