Reading digital theses in the closed network of the Aalto University Harald Herlin Learning Centre

In the closed network of Learning Centre you can read digital and digitized theses not available in the open network.

You can read theses on the Learning Centre customer computers, which are available on all floors.

Logging on to the customer computers

  • Aalto University staff members log on to the customer computer using the Aalto username and password.
  • Other customers log on using a shared username and password.

Opening a thesis

  • On the desktop of the customer computers, you will find an icon titled:

    Aalto Thesis Database

  • Click on the icon to search for and open the thesis you are looking for from Aaltodoc database. You can find the thesis file by clicking the link on the OEV or OEVS field.

Reading the thesis

  • You can either print the thesis or read it on the customer computer screen.
  • You cannot save the thesis file on a flash drive or email it.
  • You cannot copy text or images from the file.
  • You cannot edit the file.

Printing the thesis

  • You can print the thesis for your personal study or research use.
  • Aalto University students and staff members may print black-and-white prints on the PrintingPoint devices when using the computer with personal Aalto username and password. Color printing is possible using the printer u90203-psc3, which is located near the customer service. Color printing is subject to a charge to Aalto University students and staff members.
  • Other customers can use the printer u90203-psc3. All printing is subject to a charge to non-University members.

Abstract (eng): The aim of this work is to adduce key problems that will occur during the car yards' life cycle.
Defining final settlement and problems due settlements will be focused on.
Problems which will occur are gathering of water, damages on lighting structures and displacements of georeinforcements.

Car yards build on dredging landfills will settle during whole their life cycle.
Dredging land fills are to be permanently capseled below surface structures.
Basic surface structure type used is georeinforcement covered with crushed stone.
Final settlements have not been calculated before.
Value of final settlement with current storing usage is > 1.8 m on certain areas.
Heavier storing loads will cause greater settlements.
Regularly executed settlements measuring are significant part on maintenance because results will give basic information for designing and building of sewerage.

Calculation of settlement is based on ground surveys executed before building.
Results of the ground surveys are partly incomplete.
In general the result of settlement calculation can considered reliable.
Tangent modulus method, most commonly used in Finland, will be used in settlement calculations.
Abstract (fin): Työn tavoitteena on tuoda esiin kunnossapidon kannalta keskeisiä ongelmia autokenttien elinkaaren aikana.
Tutkimuksessa keskitytään lopullisen painuman määrittämiseen ja painumien aiheuttamiin ongelmiin, joita ovat sadevesien lammikoituminen, valaistuksen rakenteiden vaurioituminen ja geovahvisteen siirtymät.

Ruoppausmassojen läjitysalueen päälle rakennetut autokentät painuvat koko elinkaarensa ajan.
Ruoppausmassat on pidettävä päällysrakenteen alla kapseloituna.
Perusrakennetyyppinä on käytetty geovahvistetta ja pengertäyttöä kalliomurskeella.
Autokenttien painumia ei ole laskettu aiemmin.
Joillakin alueilla kokonaispainauman loppuarvo on tämänhetkisellä varastokäytöllä > 1,8 m.
Nykyistä raskaampi varastointikäyttö lisää kokonaispainaumaa.
Kunnossapidon kannalta on merkittävää suorittaa säännöllistä painumamittausta, jonka tulokset ovat lähtötietoja viemäröinnin suunnitteluun ja rakentamiseen.

Painuman laskenta perustuu ennen kenttien rakentamista suoritettuihin pohjatutkimuksiin.
Pohjatutkimustieto on osin puutteellista ja osa painumaparametreista on määritetty likimääräismenetelmillä.
Kokonaisuuden kannalta painumalaskennan tulosta voidaan pitää luotettavana.
Painuma lasketaan Suomessa yleisimmin käytetyllä tangenttimoduulimenetelmällä.
