Abstract (eng): In this thesis work, the relation between systolic blood pressure and pulse transit time has been studied.
Ballistocardiography, electrocardiograpy and photopletysmograpy have been used to determine the pulse transit time.
The aim of the thesis is to determine how capable the chosen measuring methods are when deducing the blood pressure of the patient.
The pulse-transit-time-based blood pressure is compared to the value given by a commercial blood pressure monitor.

The reason behind the study is the need for an apparatus for continuous blood pressure monitoring which is comfortable for the patient, easy to uses and as noninvasive as possible.
Apart from the electrocardiogram sensors, the measurement system is easy and simple to use.
The sensors used in electrocardiogram are not comfortable for the patient.

Based on the measurements, it was found that the systolic blood pressure measurement based on the pulse transit time correlates well with the blood pressure measured with the commercial device.
Diastolic blood pressure and its measurement were not investigated in this work.
Abstract (fin): Työssä on tutkittu systolisen verenpaineen ja pulssin kulkuajan välistä yhteyttä.
Mittausmenetelminä on käytetty ballistokardiofrafiaa, elektrokardiografiaa ja fotopletysmografiaa.
Tavoitteena on ollut selvittää pystytäänkö työssä kuvatulla mittalaitteistolla mittaamaan luotettavasti verenpainetta.
Pulssin kulkuajan perusteella laskettua verenpainetta on verrattu kaupallisella olkavarsiverenpainemittarilla saatuihin tuloksiin.
