Abstract:This paper aims at exploring the communication strategy of the two main candidates (S. Royal and N. Sarkozy) in the 2007 French presidential elections, breaking down the process of communication into the main elements: context, message, media-mix, and communication strategy. Gathering data from a set of secondary sources, e.g. texts, articles, statistics and interviews, presented is an analytical discussion of the central political message during the presidential campaign, it is supplemented by an analysis of the media-mix and the level of media exposure of the two main candidates. The main contribution of this study is in the presentation and discussion of the main communication tools and methods used in a political system which differs from the Anglo-American context.
