Abstract: | This paper discusses the impact of the cognitive capabilities of top executives on globalization efforts. It is argued that the managerial attention patterns or the cognitive processes of noticing and constructing meaning about the environment affect strategic stand of companies. The findings from a longitudinal sample of U.S. firms suggest that firms were more likely to develop an extensive global strategic posture when their top management took notice to the external environment and considered a various set of elements in this environment. Firms led by top management that took more notice to the internal environment were less likely to be global. |
