Abstract:This study's focus is on the importance of the institutional (herein as: inst-al.) context in shaping the nature of entrepreneurship (here as: e-ship) in emerging markets (as: em-mrkts). Particularly, it is argued that the high degree of inst-al. uncertainty in em-mrkts. often offers barriers and also opportunities to entrepreneurs and e-ship. Drawing on neo-institutional theory, a typology of possible inst-al. strategies available to entrepreneurs in em-mrkts. is developed. Identified are three strategies: inst-al. brokering, spanning inst-al. voids, and bridging inst-al. distance. Dealt with are the success factors associated with each strategy, as well.
