Abstract: | Folloving a review of recent trends and developments in competitive strategy, the competitive environment of companies , and links with the organisational structure of firms, Cliff Bowman and Simon Carter consider a case study of Baxi Heating in the UK, a company which has recently undergone major changes to its competitive strategy and its organisational structure. The case study is then used to answer the authors' central question - how should a firm be structured to deliver sustainable competitive advantage? A generic structure is suggested called the 'machine adhocracy' which can help to deliver sustainable advantage. Suggestions for further research are also made. |
