Abstract:Time has made yesterday's management skills insufficient for tomorrow's success. The uncertain and intangible future requires leadership, and so we must 'upward still and onward' to find ways of developing these new skills. W. Bennis, the preeminent student of leadership, describes 4 indispensible qualities: a stronogly defined sense of purpose or vision, constancy, candor, and focus. Three perspectives are presented for the insights they offer into today's leadership in action and our growing understanding of what will be demanded of leaders in the future.
