Abstract:The author states the question - what nature teaches us about speed. Clearly speed is only one source of advantage in the wild and speed does not always equal success. Speed may be easy to observe and measure in nature. However, the concept of fast strategy is more problematical for managers. The author also asks - what exactly it means to be a fast company - fast strategy development, fast implementation, or both; from which successful fast companies we can learn; how traditional companies undertake strategic innovation and compete in fast environments; whether all firms in the new economy should aspire to be fast companies; what really drives a fast company.
