Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the determinants of the consumption of artistic-cultural (henceforth as: a-c.) goods and services (herein as: g-and-s.) in Brazil. The consumption is seen as an activity with positive effects on the consumer and on the society as a whole. Using the human capital approach, estimated is a model with the expenditures on a-c. g-and-s. depending on socio-economic, educational and socio-demographic characteristics of the household's head, and on variables indicating the household's location. A-c. expenditures are found to be strongly determined by income and by the education of the consumer. Moreover, the expenditure differs regionally.
