Abstract:This paper relates with theories of the small- and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) internationalization process to compare international new ventures' (as: INVs) and the domestic ones' (as: DNVs) profiles. Based on a large survey of SMEs, the incidence of INVs is documented. INVs operate on all sectors. Exporting is as common among new firms as among established ones regardless of sector. Compared to domestic firms, INV owners are found to be more experienced, growth-oriented, being disproportionately more likely to be owned by recent-immigrants. There were no gender differences found as to the ownership btw. the international and domestic cohorts.
