Abstract:This paper explores the notion that derailment potential (hereafter as: d-p.) and leadership strength are different, even though related facets of effective leadership. Based on data from 2670 managers from five (5) countries (i.e. China, India, Japan, Singapore, USA), it is suggested that managers need to take close notice to reducing d-p. while developing leadership strength to be effective at the workplace. Implications are discussed for talent management theory and practice. A 3-step Sensitise-Enable-Support framework is provided for guiding practice.
