Abstract:The article examines the ways human resource management(HRM) practices are intended, used and experienced currently in 10 Finnish telecommunication firms. The study specifically investigates the direct and indirect forms of managerial control, as well as the psychological contract. The results of the study reveal that employees voluntarily assume the obligation to use organizational control as a part of their psychological contract in exchange for more autonomy and freedom that they receive. Recruitment process is an essential employer priority, whereas other HRM practices are less utilized. The carefully selected employees are given significant amount of autonomy and freedom to define what constitutes their psychological contract. However, they have to simultaneously control its attractiveness from the employer's viewpoint.
