Abstract:A set of psychological processes affects the performance in risky decision making tasks. The article concentrates on two specific tasks: the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART), both of which are related to real world risky behavior (drug use). The authors aim to disclose the processes underlying these tasks using cognitive models. The participants in the study were marijuana users, stimulant polysubstance users and healthy controls, all from USA. Two cross-task associations are identified: both tasks seem to measure loss aversion and decision consistency processes. Furhermore, drug users performed worse on IGT than healthy participants, which could be explained by the reduction in decision consistency.
