Abstract:The purpose of the article is to study the possible effect of managerial dependencies and organizational independence on the ethical behavior of employees. 203 hospital employees participated in a survey conducted in the United States. It was found that managerial dependencies, such as specialized expertise, political connections and performance visibility, had a significant effect on employee ethical behavior. For example, employees with specialized skills or political connections to top management were less likely to exhibit ethical behavior. Ethical behavior was also influenced by the independence of the organization and ethical behavior of peers.
