Abstract:This paper extends the analysis of supply and demand (henceforth as: s-and-d.) determinants of innovation in energy technologies to explain international (here as: intrl.) knowledge (as: knwl.) flows and spillovers (as: splrs). Using a sample of 38 innovating countries and exploring how knwl. is related to energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies flows across technological and geographical (herein as: t-and-g.) space, it is shown that higher t-and-g. distances are linked with lower probabilities of knwl. flow. Previous estimates are utilized to built internal and external knwl. stocks for a panel of 17 countries. An econometric analysis is presented of the s-and-d. determinants of innovation accounting for intrl. knwl. splrs. It is shown that splrs. btw. countries have a notable positive impact on further innovation in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
