Abstract:The purpose of the paper is to investigate the importance of CEOs to a firm's corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices. The authors study the relationship between the manager profile (which may range from agent model to steward model) and CSR, as well as the possible mediating effect of the perceived role of ethics and social responsibility. Data collected from 149 CEOs in Spain indicate that managers closer to the steward model are more likely to place greater importance on CSR. The existence of the mediating effect of the perceived role of ethics and social responsibility is also given support.
