Abstract:Many leadership (here as: l-ship) and ethics scholars suggest that the transformational l-ship process is asserted on a divergent set of ethical values compared to transactional l-ship. Based on data from over 120 organizational leaders and nearly 460 of their followers, it is indicated that leader deontological ethical values were strongly associated with follower ratings of transformational l-ship, whereas leader teleological ethical values were related to follower ratings of transactional l-ship. As predicted, only transformational l-ship was linked with follower beliefs in the stakeholder view of CSR.
