| Abstract: | An analysis of the composition of boards of directors in Switzerland reveals that many of them are not able to meet the requirements. As a consequence, they cannot fulfill their major tasks, in relation with the top management of the company, to the full extent. Various realignments in the function and activities of boards are suggested. Arguments are presented that they must be strengthened by recruitment of active entrepreneurs and scientific management specialists, e.g. professors and management consultants. This will broaden their competence in strategic management, organizational design and the application of modern management techniques. |
