social computing
Tiivistelmä (eng):Social computing is the intersection of human social behavior and software technology.
Today social computing has taken various forms such as social media networks, online collaboration tools, communication application and crowd sourcing platforms.
With almost 3 billion people having access to the internet, social computing has become an integral part of our daily lives.
Though these certain aspects of social computing have grown successfully, the overall social computing experience is still broken.
The design of personal computers has failed to adapt successfully to the rapidly changing internet technologies.
For instance, the existence of multiple devices with multiple software architectures makes it difficult for users to share and collaborate with each other without having to often encounter technological restrictions.

This thesis explores the various limitations with existing computer technologies in creating a seamless social computing experience and how a new age computer called Solu is addressing these issues.
Solu has been designed with social computing concepts at its core.
The hardware and the software have been completely re-thought of and redesigned to fit the internet era.

The design choices behind Solu's operating system and certain features in it are explained and documented by benchmarking them with research in the human computer interaction field and with current trends in industry.
This is followed by a discussion and conclusion as to how existing computing systems could be redesigned to create better social computing experiences.
