Tiivistelmä (eng): | The goal of this thesis is to see the influence of the hull form on the distribution of the shear stresses. The shear stresses are computed with the CFD software OpenFOAM as solver. Two different hulls are computed. The first hull is a modern tanker, the KVLCC2, a benchmark case well studied for the last two decades. The second hull is a cruise ferry built short time before this thesis is written. This provides two cases on the extremes of the hull shape range. The scale is also considered in the analysis of the hulls. Both hulls are computed in model and full scales. The results are processed as coefficients, some of them widely used and some specifically developed for this thesis. The calculations required to obtain these coefficients are coded in Matlab. The validation of the results is done by comparing the tanker case with the previous work and literature. The same framework will be applied on the cruise ferry case. The shear stresses are contrasted with the expected values of a flat plate. The analysis of the distribution is divided in three steps. The first step target is to see the overall distribution on the surface. The local values are analyzed in the second step with longitudinal cuts. The third step is to see the evolution along the length of each hull. The present work should be considered as an introduction to the analysis of the shear stresses. The approach is from the naval architecture point of view. |
