Abstract: | Production planning in a multi-product, multi-machine environment is investigated, where high precision metal tubes are manufactured in three major operations, which are repeated four to five times to make the final products. The system capacity is analyzed and then heuristics for the scheduling problem is developed. The scheduling system consists of MRP logic and the OPT concepts of backward and forward scheduling. Further, the effectiveness of the planning rules is studied by simulating flow of orders through the production process. The advantages of such a system are illustrated. |
