| Abstract: | The proximity of the European Single Market on 1st January 1993, is going to exert influence on the banking systems of the various countries belonging to the EC, as well as on the strategies of the banks in Europe. The main factors likely to transform the European banking systems are identified. The state of the banking industry is presented as a result of these changes. The strategies of adjustment designed by the European banks are analyzed in detail. The future trends of the European banking system are also examined. |
