Abstract:Despite the complexity of the market and the wide range of products including quality wines, table wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines etc., some important trends may be identified. There has been a distinctive trend away from table wines toward higher quality (AOC) wines. The market for champagnes has suffered in 1990. The volume of the market has been in steady decline over the past few years. Value sales increased by 24 percent from 1986 to 1990, which is a real growth of 9 percent. Table wines represent the largest sector in volume terms, though quality wines rank first by value. Flavoured sparkling wines have been the boom sector in the past two years.
