| Abstract: | Research on intra-industry trade (ITT) has generated a lot of stimulating approaches to the development of international trade theory in the last two decades. In this article, a case study of ITT is used for (1) analyzing if "true" ITT exists, or if ITT can be attributed entirely to "categorical aggregation", and (2) generating new hypotheses on the causes of ITT. The case is the Swedish foreign trade in liquid pumps, where ITT constituted close to 100 per cent of the total pump trade in recent years. A survey of the foreign trade statistics on Swedish pump trade is made. |
