Abstract:An attempt is made to understand the crisis behaviour and crisis vulnerability of organizations. A model is built and field data collected from 60 different organizations through 120 interviews are interpreted. It is shown that a major determinant of organizations prior to, during and after major crisis is the makeup of their corporate "minds". It is also shown that the multiple perspective models developed to understand this behaviour are necessary to understand the complex behaviour of organizations during crisis; they also appear to have a predictive validity. These models can be used to identify crisis-prone and crisis-prepared organizations and to suggest strategies for improving their crisis performance.
