Abstract:The UK market for televisions is examined which now almost exclusively consists of colour models. The market for CTVs has been in decline since 1988. In 1990 unit sales fell by 9 percent while value was down by 5 percent. A slower decline is estimated for 1991 when 3.2 million units should be sold, worth over GBP 1 billion. 150,000 personal TVs have been sold in 1991, mostly for sport enthusiasts. Competition is intense and the number of players is high. Ferguson led the CTV sector in 1990. CTV sales are expected to pick up by 1993. Statistical tables of the market are presented.
