Abstract:The free trade agreements with Finland, Sweden and later also with Norway provide the framework for expanding trade with the Baltic countries. In particular Estonian and Latvia trade efforts seem Nordic-oriented. The agreements show the Nordic countries' interest in bolstering the position of the Baltics within the European trading system. The agreements stated that it was more important to help these countries than the Central European post-socialist countries.
