| Abstract: | The analysis suggests several insights. It may be possible to slash environmental impacts to roughly a hundredth of today's level, but this cannot be achieved through conventional approaches to "growth with pollution control". A sustainable society is therefore feasible, and, in fact, different routes are possible to different kinds of sustainable futures. Technological progress is a critical success factor, but we need to choose technologies in the light of the kind of society we want to create. |
