Abstract: | Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) markets have been characterized by three empirical regularities: rapidly falling prices during early stages of the product cycle; increased average market penetration by Japanese producers over successive product generations; and ostensibly below-cost sales by those firms for prolonged periods. This paper indicates how a competitive model incorporating production experience effects and process technology dissemination can account for each of these industry features. |
