Abstract: | Kvaerner is one of the greatest privately-owned enterprises in Norway. It has more than 23,000 employees in more than 50 countries. It views itself as an international, rather than Norwegian, company. So management attempted to coordinate its human resources policies across countries. Kvarner is an interesting case study of an approach to international human resource management which is broader than the traditional focus on issues relating to expatriate managers. Parallel union attempts to "go global" within the company are also examined. |
