Abstract:Bankers active in privatizations can't ignore politics. As more countries embrace privatization programmes, a growing number of transactions are stalled or cancelled by political wrangles and protest groups. The failed attempts to sell the Greek Telecommunications Organization (OTE) is only one example. Aline van Duyn looks at the OTE saga and some other cases where politics has made sell-offs far from straightforward.
